Linda and Frank have been dating one another for eight years. They met while enrolled in the same Greek philosophy class at a relatively small, rural, Church affiliated liberal arts college located in the Midwestern part of the United States. While they were essentially good buddies at first, they at long last began dating when they were in their second year of college.
Given the fact that both of them came from very strict backgrounds, neither one of them drank very much beyond the experimental stage when they first started to date. As the time went by, then again, they started to go to more keg parties, happy hours, sorority and fraternity parties, and football bashes. All of these uncertainties clearly pointed to the same conclusion, namely that Linda and Frank needed to discover that they couldn't maintain their irresponsible and abusive drinking if their aspirations, hopes, and dreams were to be attained.
Once they came to this conclusion, they alerted their drinking friends about their their marital plans, about their plans to start a family, and about their goal of buying or building a new house. They also told their drinking friends that they still wanted to hang out with them but that they would be drinking responsibly from this time forward so that they could start to realize their future plans, dreams, and hopes.
Surprisingly, all of their buddies expressed relief because they too had been reevaluating their lives and concluded that their life-styles were totally centered around drinking. They also understood that they would have to change fundamentally if they were to become more adult-like and manifest more forethought for their health, their careers, and for their goals in the next twenty or twenty-five years.
After opening up to their friends about their dreams, goals, and aspirations, Frank and Linda in effect started to have more significant relationships with all of their pals. The primary reason for this was the fact that all of them were on the same wave-length regarding their excessive and heavy drinking and their short and long-term goals, aspirations, and plans.
