A Young Male Needs Treatment For His Severe Depression, Relationship Problems, And For His Drug Addiction And Alcohol Dependency
Approximately three months ago I had lunch with a forty-three-year-old male named Benjamin who experiences extreme depression, has relationship issues, and who is dependent on alcohol and drugs. As explained by Benjamin, it is his drug and alcohol addiction and his severe depression that has had the most to do with his constant relationship issues.

As affirmed by Benjamin, he is so crushed by his relationship issues and by both of his medical conditions that he in essence has little or no motivation to do much of anything. What is especially sad about this is that earlier in his life, Benjamin managed to complete four semesters of graduate school in theology.

Benjamin's condition makes me question if he is an illustration of a person who can look in the mirror and see his drug abuse and drinking problems and do something constructive about these issues. Or, on the other hand, if he is someone who has to hit the bottom of the barrel before he gets drug and alcohol addiction rehabilitation that leads to long-term recovery.

It may be asked how counseling would help his drug and alcohol dependency. First of all, there are several recently produced physician-prescribed medications that can help Benjamin through his withdrawal symptoms, through the drug and alcohol detoxification process, and help him avoid an alcohol or a drug relapse. Second, in treatment he could also learn more about his alcoholism symptoms and also about the different stages of alcoholism.

Third, Benjamin would learn to admit the fact that there is utterly nothing healthy about drug addiction and careless and abusive drinking. In a similar way, he would also learn that involving himself in one or both of these unhealthy conditions is the path to shattered relationships, a premature death, legal problems, financial difficulties, deteriorating health, and poor work and school performance. Fourth, treatment for his relationship issues and his depression might help him deal with these psychological difficulties more successfully and possibly create less of a need for him to involve himself in addictive behavior. And finally,in rehabilitation he could also learn more about the various symptoms of alcoholism that he has exhibited.

Due to the fact that Benjamin doesn't have the drive to achieve much of anything in his life, it is clear that he definitely needs some hope for a better life. And the unfortunate thing is that hope is virtually everywhere around Benjamin if he could only get to the place in life to get the treatment he requires for his acute depression and drug addiction and alcoholism and adhere to his treatment protocol.

Benjamin is simply too young to be overwhelmed in life. He doesn't comprehend this at this time in his life but if he can learn how to stay away from drugs and alcohol through alcohol and drug rehab and get the treatment he needs for his acute depression, he can redirect his life and begin living with passion, self-respect, and direction.

More solid relationships, a wonderful life, self esteem, and beneficial change are clearly possibilities for Benjamin. But only if he can get motivated to seek the professional rehabilitation he needs, follow through with his therapy program, live his life in an alcohol and drug-free and healthy way, and learn how to develop a more positive attitude about his life.
