Abusive And Irresponsible Drinking Leads To Mental Health Issues And Depression, An Enabling Spouse, And Inspiration For Beneficial Change
It took several years but Sarah at long last decided that she had enough with her husband's careless and hazardous drinking. She was tired of seeing Keith come home after midnight from drinking rather than spending time with her and their two sons. She was also drained from the DUI Keith recently received. Furthermore she was sick of making explanations for her spouse when he couldn't show up for work on time due to his unhealthy and excessive drinking.
Not only this but she was anxious about the fact that their relationship was crumbling due to Keith's excessive and abusive drinking. And lastly she was tired of the insecure financial dilemma into which he had put his family because of his careless and abusive drinking behavior.
One morning when Sarah was thinking about what she could do about her husband's excessive and abusive drinking, she got to the point that she honestly had to do something to cut into the destructive cycle of Keith's unhealthy and excessive drinking behavior. So Sarah looked in the local yellow pages under "alcohol rehab" and located numerous treatment clinics that were all located less than forty-five miles away from where she and Keith resided.
When Sarah called each rehab clinic she identified who she was and articulated that her husband was involved in excessive and abusive drinking behavior. She also said that her husband had a fine health insurance program at his place of employment and that residential or outpatient alcohol dependency rehabilitation would be covered if a physician in the company health plan authorized the rehabilitation.
After listening to Sarah discuss her husband's abusive and unhealthy drinking, the physician in a supportive but resolute manner explained to Sarah how she may have adding to her spouse's careless drinking through the months and the years. How? Basically by covering for him instead of allowing him to suffer the consequences of his excessive and abusive drinking behavior.
Stated in a slightly different way, the therapist stated to Sarah that she may have been accidentally enabling Keith's careless drinking behavior. The physician also highlighted the fact that Sarah could not control her husband's conduct. With the guidance and support of the rehab team at the rehab facility, nonetheless, she would not only be able to learn how to refrain from contributing to Keith's careless drinking but she could also learn how to encourage him to schedule an appointment at the treatment center so that he could talk about his careless drinking behavior with a physician.
Fortunately after Sarah explained this to her husband and he saw that she was serious, he told her that he had been extremely worried about his abusive and unhealthy drinking behavior and that he was quite relieved to realize that Sarah wanted to do something affirmative about his careless drinking behavior. As a result, he made an appointment to see a healthcare practitioner at the local alcohol treatment facility.
While simply calling a rehab center does not guarantee that an individual's careless drinking behavior will stop or that a person will automatically be more willing to learning about alcohol abuse facts, making an appointment is undoubtedly a compulsory step in the rehab process. And due to the fact that Keith wanted to learn more about alcohol abuse statistics, about getting quality help for his excessive and abusive drinking, and about alcohol abuse and alcoholism the likelihood of a successful recovery was greatly increased.
