Small Breed Puppy Training
The reason why dog lovers have got this preconceived idea that small dogs are more challenging to condition than medium sized or large breed dogs, I will never be able to comprehend. Housebreaking a puppy, irrespective of its size should never be difficult.
Small dog training, is in no way different from training a dog of any other sized breed. While training any dog will have its peculiarities, related to its breed, practically all other elements remain the same, and the method to training the pup should stay the same, irrespective its size.
Having said that, I will stray from the rule here, and agrree that small dog training may present difficulties in two areas, (1) Aggression and (2) Puppy crate training. Nonetheless, this is not because the size of the breed is small, but ten times out of ten, because of the owner.
If a tiny breed puppy is aggressive and is hard to train, or if a smaller breed pup cannot be toilet trained or poses difficulties in being bathroom trained, it is the owner who has unknowingly contributed to this state of affairs. Let us look at how and why.
Aggression.
Small dogs are enjoyed because they are pretty, they are like playthings. Owners take pleasure in having their pet sit on their laps. This kind of indulgence is where the difficulty commences. The innate aggressive trait of the puppy, is to assert ownership over its sector, its food, even its leader; all canines need to be the alpha dog.
It is the hostile streak in the puppy that makes it to climb on to the lap of its mistress, particularly when there are lots of individuals gathered in the room.
This is a obvious act of violence. Instead of chiding the dog, every owner bar no one, would hug the pup, despite the fact it jumped on to their lap uninvited, developing the aggressive streak in the pup. By doing this the owner has okayed the pooch's basic instinct to be the alpha dog.
Growling and getting upset at a bigger dog is another clear act of hostility. To the owner, and even the onlookers, this is seen as cute, just because one dog is tiny while the other is bigger. Most owners cuddle the pup instead of checking it, when it displays this aggression to a larger dog.

Potty Training.

It is as a reflex action that the owners of miniature breed dogs to lug the animal to the place where the pooch should eliminate itself and then carry it back into the house.
